Latin 1 Course Workbook

 

 

 

 

 

Latin 1 is the equivalent of the first year of a High School Foreign Language, and satisfies one year of the Foreign Language requirement for college entrance.  During this first year of Latin instruction, students will learn all five noun declensions and cases, all four verb conjugations, irregular verbs, and various pronouns, adjectives and adverbs. Learning is reinforced through weekly readings and translations.  Students also take a fascinating journey through Roman culture, myths, and history.  Students will be reading weekly Latin texts about such historical figures as Aeneas, Cincinnatus, Hannibal, Cato, Cicero, Spartacus, Julius Caesar and Brutus.

 

PLEASE NOTE: If you have enrolled your student in Latin 1 with One Day Academy, you will purchase this workbook through through the One Day Academy website, and not via this website. In addition to this workbook, you'll need to purchase the Latin Alive! Book 1 student textbook and teacher's book.   Both this Course Workbook and the Latin Alive! student textbook are needed for class.  The teacher's book is needed for the parent at home.

Latin 1A Course Workbook

 

 

 

 

 

Both the Latin 1A and Latin 1B Course Workbooks together contain the same information found in the Latin 1 Course Workbook: Latin 1A covers the first half of Latin 1 (Chapters 1-13) and Latin 1B covers the second half (Chapters 14-29).  Younger students who would like to complete the Latin 1 course but need to take it at a slower pace would do well using Latin 1A and 1B since they take two years to complete instead of the usual one year for Latin 1.

 

During the Latin 1A year, students will learn three of the five noun declensions and the uses of the main five cases, three of the four verb conjugations, uses of the irregular verb "to be", and various pronouns, adjectives and adverbs.  Learning is reinforced through bi-weekly readings and translations.  Students also take a fascinating journey through Roman culture, myths, and history.  Students will be reading weekly Latin texts about several historical figures.

Latin 2 Course Workbook

 

 

 

 

 

Latin 2 is the equivalent of the second year of a High School Foreign Language, and satisfies an additional year of the Foreign Language requirement for college entrance.  During this second year of Latin instruction, students will build on the grammar and vocabulary mastered in Latin 1, and will expand their knowledge to include comparative and superlative adjectives and adverbs, thepassive voice, participles, deponent verbs, and more.  Each weekly chapter contains a Latin reading that takes the student through a fascinating journey of Roman culture, myths, and history.  Students will be reading weekly Latin texts from such historical writers as Shakespeare, Horace, Vergil, Ovid, Seneca, Tacitus, Pliny and St. Augustine.

Latin 3 Course Workbook

 

 

 

 

 

Latin 3 is the equivalent of the third year of High School Foreign Language, making the student pursuing language, medicine, law, or science in college more prepared with three years of Latin upon going into college.  During this third year of Latin instruction, students will continue to build on the grammar and vocabulary mastered in Latin 1 and 2, and they will expand their knowledge to include the subjunctive voice and all of the varied and helpful ways to use it in Latin constructions.  Students will be taught how to construe weekly original Latin texts taking the student even deeper into the world of great leaders and thinkers such as Cicero, Vergil and St. Augustine.
